Sheffield Gothic’s ‘Dark Enchantments’ glistens and beguiles

Mark and AJ were privileged to attend the Sheffield Gothic Dark Enchantments conference at the University of Sheffield, 29 and 30 October. Exploring ‘Gothic Folklore and the Monstrous Fairytale’, this two-day colloquium of presentations, performance, readings and workshops took delegates on a deliciously dark voyage through the sinister, ethereal and downright unsettling, packed with bewitching content to enchant and enthrall seasoned enthusiasts, the Gothic-adjacent and curious newbies alike. We were particularly excited to join two events hosted by friends of Cut: a ghostly creative writing workshop with Ella Ruby Self, author of Abraxus Elijah Honey and the launch of a special issue of Twisted Ink journal, in celebration of current studies of and creative responses to the Gothic. Huge congratulations to the organisers and participants for a fun, inspiring and thought-provoking programme.
